-Graham Marsh, Co-Author of "IVY LOOK",
Designer of "Kamakura Shirts Vintage Ivy Collection"
Vintage Ivy Button-down Oxford Shirt Designed in collaboration with illustrator Graham Marsh, the Vintage Ivy oxford cloth button-down shirt resembles what would be found on American college campuses in the 1960s. The shirt body comes in a regular fit with a box pleat at back. The shorter three-inch collar offers two quintessential Ivy details: a back-button and locker loop. The shirt cuffs are pleated, and the six-button front uses real cream-colored takase shell buttons. An indispensable piece for any wardrobe, the Vintage Ivy model can be worn tucked-in on a night out and untucked for a Sunday at the park.

Beautiful fabric, great construction & fit. Fits as listed in the size chart.
The shirt is of top quality, the cut is complicated for Europeans. I took the largest number and it wouldn't be bad if I could go a little bigger, but it can pass. My opinion is that they could expand the range of sizes (especially the sleeves) for the European market.
The support was fast and efficient as was the delivery.
For me, you have the highest score for quality, slightly less for the range of fit
This a lovely shirt, so well made, but low key... More of a private pleasure, like appreciating the link to the Miles Davis album cover.
I have been a loyal Kamakura shirts wearer for years, because I frequented the Madison Ave store often. The Vintage Ivy line is just perfect and represents a value over competitors for the fit, style and fabric quality. Top notch.
My wife purchased this shirt (in red) as a Christmas gift for me. I own a Kamakura OCBD from the Vintage Ivy Collection. So I was fairly confident on the size. In most shirting, I am a 16 1/2, 35. Based on the measurements provided on the brushed cotton twill, my wife ordered me a large. When the shirt arrived, the shirt was not only too small, the fit was extremely awkward: the sleeves were too short; the collar was too tight; and the hem hung awkwardly around my navel (much too short). While it would not generally have been a huge issue to exchange the shirt for a larger size, Kamakura's charges for return shipping are outrageous. They do not offer exchanges, which means I would have had to return the shirt and then order another one. To return the shirt, Kamakura deducted 40 dollars from my refund, and would have charged me 20 more dollars to ship me a new one. That means that, to return the shirt and order a shirt that fit, I would have to spend 80 dollars in shipping. If the replacement shirt didn't end up fitting, I would have had to return it and be charged another 40 dollars in shipping. I have never encountered a more outrageous return policy. If you purchase a shirt, and want to exchange it, Kamakura should cover the shipping. I did not end up ordering a replacement shirt as I did not want to spend 80 dollars in shipping to get a shirt that fit! Because the measurements provided by Kamakura were not accurate, I ordered a shirt that was too small and ended up paying 60 dollars total in shipping to return a shirt and not get a replacement. For that reason, I will not be ordering any further Kamakura products in the future and would not recommend anyone else doing so unless you are cool with paying outrageous shipping to return your shirt.
Dear Kelly C,
We sincerely apologize for the frustration you experienced with your recent order and return process. We understand how disappointing it must have been to receive a shirt that didn’t fit as expected, and we regret any inconvenience caused.
After reviewing the records, we’d like to clarify the breakdown of the USD 40 deduction. USD 25 covered the initial shipping cost to send the shirt to you, while USD 15 was for the return shipping label. As an international retailer, our shipping and tax costs often exceed the fees we charge customers, but we strive to keep them as reasonable as possible.
Regarding sizing, we do our best to provide accurate measurements in our size chart. If the actual shirt dimensions had varied by more than 2%(within 2% is the generally accepted tolerance in apparel manufacturing) from the listed measurements, we would have gladly covered the return shipping as a defective item. In such cases, we encourage customers to reach out so we can resolve the issue promptly.
We truly appreciate your feedback and regret that this experience did not meet your expectations. If there’s anything further we can do to assist you, please don’t hesitate to let us know.
Best regards!
I bought two Vintage Ivy tab collar shirts after seeing Kamakura recommended on Instagram and reading about tab collars in Graham Marsh’s book. The tab collars make such a difference. I was on a work trip to Milan (during fashion week as well) and didn’t feel too out of place without having to go to any extra effort
Beautiful fabric, great construction & fit. Fits as listed in the size chart.
Apparently, I am NOT a 161/2-34 in this Tokyo Slim Fit. The sleeves are at least 1” too short. Looks ok when your arms are at your side, but the moment you extend your arm to shake someone’s hand, the sleeve rides up. I emailed Kamakura Shirts asking for a solution, stating that I travel to Japan annually and always wanted to try this shirt brand as I would likely buy more. Also, it would appear, that a 161/2-35 is not offered. So FAR, no one has replied to my email.
